The Basics
Tags help you to structure research data and prepare it for further analysis. You can assign tags to any piece of raw data like notes, transcripts, images, or videos. This is then called a highlight.
You can apply project tags or global tags to research data. By default, tags in Condens are project-specific and can only be used in the project they are created in. To connect research evidence across projects, we use global tags, which are available in all projects.
When working on a research project, you can access the Artifact(s) of your current project at any stage on the right edge of your screen. You can open this area in a split-screen mode to add findings at any stage. The Artifact of your project will also be accessible when you open the global tags or the search.
Tip: You can pin any Artifact to the right sidebar by dragging and dropping it to the area above or clicking on the 'Pin-to-sidebar button' on the Artifact's page or when right-clicking on the Artifact's icon in the sidebar. That way you can easily access an Artifact no matter which project you are in.
Add highlights from other projects via Global Tags
Select a project in which you want to summarize your findings. You now have this project's Artifacts available on the right side of your screen.
Select a global tag or global tag group to see all the highlights associated with it.
You can use the search bar to filter and sort the highlights for further analysis.
Select the highlight or multiple highlights and add it to your Artifact on the right side of your screen via drag & drop.
Add highlights from other projects via Project Tags
It's possible to add highlights from other projects that were tagged with project-specific tags. Please note that we recommend using global tags for highlights that have relevance beyond the original research study. However, you may need to bring project highlights from another project that aren't tagged with global tags to your Artifact nevertheless.
Select a project in which you want to summarize your findings. You now have the project's Artifacts available on the right side of your screen.
Open the
section and head to the tab .You can either choose the research project of interest or use the search bar to find a specific project tag.
Choose a tag or tag group to see all connected pieces of evidence.
Select the highlight or multiple highlights and add it to your Artifact on the right side of your screen via drag & drop.
Add highlights from other projects via Search
When working on a research project, you can always access the Search. Type a keyword, and you can browse all relevant elements in Condens. You can filter for projects, sessions, tags, concrete highlights, participants, and Artifacts to find what you're looking for.
When you find relevant highlights, add them to your Artifact via Drag & Drop.
When you find relevant information that is not tagged as a highlight, you can access the raw data directly and add a tag to it.
Add Artifacts
Besides Highlights, you can also drag other Artifacts into the Artifact you're currently working on. It’s super easy to build links between Artifacts and connect them into a formal report. Simply go to the Artifact that you want to include and drag findings, reports, or other Artifacts into the open Artifact in the sidebar.
You can also search for, filter, and open Artifacts from any project (no matter which one you're currently working on) from the sidebar.
Simply click the -button in the right sidebar or press Cmd+K to access your Artifacts. Then you can choose whether to search within the active Artifact or across all Artifacts, apply filters, and open the right one.
You can also revisit previously opened Artifacts with a single click to save you time and make Artifact management smoother and more efficient.
