Working in split-screen mode

Split-screen mode in Condens makes it easy to analyze research data and build insights side by side. Whether you’re reviewing transcripts or compiling a report, you can keep everything in view without switching tabs. With integrated cross-project access via the sidebar, it’s simple to reference past work, compare findings, or build on previous research, all in one place.

Rather than forcing you into a rigid workflow, Condens gives you the flexibility to work more naturally — jumping between sources, connecting ideas, and documenting insights in a way that reflects how research naturally happens.

How to use the split-screen mode

Split-screen mode allows you to work across different content types — such as transcripts, notes, reports, or tags — in a single, flexible view. Here’s how to get started:

1. Quickly access Artifacts

The sidebar is always visible on the far right of your screen. At its top, you'll find the icon to browse or search Artifacts across all your projects directly from the sidebar. You can also use the ⌘ + K shortcut for this action.

To keep key insights within easy reach, pin Artifacts you're currently working on or revisit often. While viewing any Artifact, click the icon to add it to the sidebar.

2. Create new Artifacts

You can add a new Artifact from the sidebar by clicking the icon on the bottom. This is helpful when capturing new insights on the fly while reviewing data.

3. Drag and drop tags, highlights, or clusters

The drag-and-drop workflow lets you work with data and insights side-by-side, allowing you to quickly turn quotes or observations into structured insights.

You can easily place highlights, quotes, or other pieces of evidence directly from the main view into your notes or a report in the sidebar. This makes contextual analysis much simpler, as you never lose focus by switching between tabs or tools.

  • Capture insights as you read

    Review a transcript on the left while adding takeaways to a note or whiteboard on the right, ideal during synthesis.

  • Build affinity diagrams without losing context

    Drag highlights or quotes directly into a cluster or report, all while keeping the source material in view. Learn more

  • Compare and connect across projects

    Use cross-project search to bring in findings from older studies or parallel projects. Learn more

  • Reference previous research as you work

    Pull in pinned or recent Artifacts from the sidebar to connect themes or align new findings with past results.

  • Collaborate in real time

    Teams can co-analyze, discuss findings, or iterate on reports in the same shared workspace. Learn more

Cross-project Analysis

Connect research evidence from another study in your current project or conduct a meta-study only using evidence from other projects already available in Condens.

FAQ

Can I adjust the size of the split view?

Yes. You can resize the left and right panels by dragging the divider between them.

What types of content can I use in each panel?

You can open any structure from Condens:

  • Left panel: Magazine, Projects, Participants, Tags, or Search

  • Within Projects: Sessions, Highlights, Charts, or Artifacts

  • Right panel: Artifacts such as Notes, Reports, Findings, Whiteboards, or Journey Maps

Does split-screen mode support cross-project work?

Yes, the sidebar allows you to search and access Artifacts across all projects.

Is this feature available for all users?

Split-screen mode is available on all paid plans.
